Kalashnikitty at the Range

Pictures From a Cordite Exhibition (BTW, the Carnival is up and I'm late again).
Reach out and touch some targets.

Now they're up:

Some of the equipment is more exotic than I can afford, but they shoot in a different class.

We had a pretty full line in both relays - something psychedelic happened to my camera when I accidentally switched to a mode other than automatic.

I put the lens of my camera down onto the spotting scope to get this shot of Bud's sighters. Bud's a retired old Norwegian guy who also shoots at 600-yards with his (other) Palma rifle... Sheesh.

Scoring

The Match
Classes of Rifles:
1. Any rifle/any sight (Any rifle with either open sights or a scope)

2. Any rifle/iron sight (Any rifle with open sights, e.g. match bolt rifles, space guns.)

3. Service rifle (M1, M1A, AR, no scopes)

4. Modified F class (any of the above rifles with any sight and a front support, e.g. bi-pods, sand bags, etc. Rear support not allowed, e.g., no rear benchrest bags.

5. Relic. (Any rifle in use prior to World War II with issue sights, i.e., no match sights or scopes. (Relic rifles may use a front support.)

.30 caliber maximum in all classes.

Course of fire:
Sighter stage: Three minute preparation period and five minutes for unlimited sighters.
Stage 1: Fifteen record shots prone, single round load in 15 minutes.
Stage 2: Fifteen record shots prone, single round load in 15 minutes.
Stage 3: Fifteen record shots prone, single round load in 15 minutes.

We shot and I still suck. Fourth-out-of-five in the Relic class, mainly because one guy shot poorly, got p.o.'d, and decided to skip the last stage. Primarily I made a big mistake and didn't use the allowed front-rest. What is allowed becomes required - and since the others used a rest I screwed myself out of the competition. I rationalized that it would give me a sense of what it was like to shoot a regular match where no front support is allowed, but it's a whole different ballgame and I should not have mixed my mental apples and oranges.

Some guys nearly cleaned it. Anyhow it was fun and I'm still very impressed with the K-31.
