h/t Insty: Wilmette Suspends Local Handgun Ban (!!)
WILMETTE, Ill. -- Wilmette has suspended enforcement of its 19-year-old ordinance banning handgun possession in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court decision that appears to invalidate such bans.
"The Law Department and the Police Department have suspended enforcement of the ordinance pending further review by the Village Board," Wilmette village attorney Tim Frenzer said Thursday. "Based on the decision today, at a minimum it calls into serious question the continued viability of the ordinance."
Go Heller, GO!
UPDATE: Morton Grove suspends gun ban.
The upshot is a lot of these rulings were a fashion statement, made with the flick of a Mayor's pen and can be as easily undone - but their suspension is a convenience simply to avoid the conflict they present and cost of litigation in which they might become embroiled.
In the case of both New York and Chicago the anti-gun legislation was brought about by The Mob. The Sullivan Law in New York City occurred because second generation Irish would not knuckle under to protection rackets like their immigrant parents and armed themselves to repel these thugs. "Big Tommy" Sullivan passed the gun bans because too many mob enforcers were being shot. In Chicago the ban was enacted by Alderman Roti, revealed in 1999 by the Justice Department as a "high ranking made member" of the Chicago Mob, decided he wanted to ban guns in Chicago so honest citizens couldn't fight back against "The Outfit." Neither ban had anything to do with public safety.

Amazing to hear that come out of Daley's Ill-annoys. Maybe wonders haven't ceased after all.
News that good was worth waiting for.
You could knock me over with a feather at a law enforcement agency refusing to enforce an active law.
Hello Lin, Fatale Dear - and welcome SonarMan! Good news indeed, but to those wholive in Free states already it may not seem as significant as for us in CA where "capricious and arbitrary" are the standards by which Liberals measure.
It is an absolute joy to see slick mayor Newsome of San Francisco burble incoherencies and mouth the Liberal pieties and platitudes that do little against crime while constraining the lawful and letting vicious criminals off with easy sentences because it makes them feel good about themselves.
I waxed a little more Biblical concerning this (my brain draws strange parallels, I will grant), but this is definitely good news on all counts - especially for the taxpayers of Wilmette not having to pay for a pointless court case the city would have eventually lost.
Linoge buddy, it's ok to go Biblical, my dad is a minister (with a theological degree from Berkely) so I get stuff. Parallels are everywhere and seldom sttange. :-)
Sure, it's great that these jerks finally woke up from their self-induced coma on the subject. Self-realization is the best therapy there is. All I can say is, Jeezis, it's about frickin' time!
However, here's the disturbing part, as far as I'm concerned;
"Based on the decision today, at a minimum it calls into serious question the continued viability of the ordinance."
As if it ever had any validity to begin with!
Think about it.
Phlegmy,
Entirely unrelated to the subject at hand here, I think that's just an excellent pic of you for your gravatar!
The mob, eh? That figures!
The Mob and Unions are the model for Socialism in action, in Europe they are implementing it as the EU.
