Religion What-up?

H/t To Naked Villainy and his buddy Big Hominid, I caught-up with a kindergarten level Religiosity Odometer attempting to measure secular America's religious breadth of knowledge or lack thereof.  I got a pretty good score (%100) but it struck me as a pretty sophomoric exercise for the Pew Foundation to get themselves all smug about.  They gave short shrift to most religions including Christianity, and then sandbagging, threw a knuckle-ball question to knock down the odds.  Take the test and check it out if you want, but:
Your responses on the quiz do NOT affect the U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey's results.
They have their survey-results, now to make/influence Policy!  Granted that a lot of people view any religion as invisible sky-friends, or use the hip-ironic and tragic-sarcastic equivalence of The Flying Spaghetti Monster - but there's a whole, world-wide and centuries old dynamic out there being ignored while they stick their heads in the sand of Politics.  What is said about politics by those who ignore it, is equally true of certain a religion; "you may not be interested in politics, but politics is interested in you"...  Think Islam.
Anyhow, the weak test had nothing about the Mahabarata or the Gita, nothing about the Gateless Gate, and no mention of Constantinople or Voudoun - so they missed a lot of continents.  Also for some Politics itself is a Religion (see: Communism), and notable especially among the hip-ironic and earnestly striving - there are the Greens, a pantheistic secular religion that even has sky-friends.

Mexiguns by the Truckload

H//T Say Uncle. Some folks keep saying that the USA is the source of Mexico's gun woes, but it seems they just steal them by the truck-load - from the State Police.
Pretty brazen, huh? And some nitwits claim they get automatic weapons from Gunshows in the U.S.
The commando then entered the arsenal after breaking 2 locks to get through the steel doors. They took 43 H&K G36 assault rifles (.223 caliber), 26 9mm pistols, bulletproof vests & grenades....
And grenades, that's a lot of stuff you can't very easily find at a Gunshow in the US.
It was also apparent from how the commando conducted their operation that they knew how to enter the complex, how to access the radio room & where the arsenal was located.
A little help, ya think? And not a "gunshow loophole" in sight.

News for the Political Clueless - Class Dismissed

H/t Uncle, summation from The Cluemeter regarding the Pledge to America. You guys could-have, should-have been working on that stuff all along. Just like the "Contract with America" it’s full of stuff they’ll completely ignore in the event they control congress and the presidency for six years. So....

Just because I'll probably vote for you, doesn't mean I like you.

and Ninth Stage said...

And just because I don't like you, doesn't mean I like the other guys.

Nor does it mean I will continue to vote for you.

They have a lot to prove first.

UPDATE! with even more minty-fresh Clues and a Clue-bat from The Travis McGee Reader:
The Republican "Pledge to America" was a mistake, the seriousness of which remains to be seen. Anti-Democrats were on a roll. Obama-ite Liberals looked at November in despair.

The "pledge" gives them a fresh target and a news peg to reopen dialogs on points already conceded to the GOP by likely voters. It violates a first principle of campaigning: When you're ahead, don't debate.

Besides, most everyone knows they don't mean it.
"The Stupid Party, Stupid Again."

Aztec Cultural Hegemony and the Mussolini Smug-look

The bloodthirsty Aztec tribe from which we derive the name Mexica and the place-name Mexico, were feared and hated by all the other indigenous Meso-Americans in the surrounding lake-region, whom they fought and brutalized. Without the revolutionary, military assistance of those other disenfranchised tribes, Cortés' small band of Conquistadors would not have been able to defeat the powerful Aztecs. It's believed some of the worst aspects of Aztec culture; ritual child-killing, blood sacrifices, and ritual cannibalism were introduced into the Anasazi culture of the Southwestern Indians by Aztecs who fled from the Spanish conquest.

(Map: Dutch cartographer and water-colorist Johannes Vinckeboons - Amsterdam 1616/1617 - 7/20/1670)

In 1496 Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo wrote a fourth and fifth book that appended a popular series of Spanish chivalric romantic novels called Amadis of Gaul. His fifth book called "The Exploits of Esplandian" dealt with the adventures of Amadis' eldest son, and introduced the readers to a Shangri-La type, mythical island off the coast of the West Indies called California, inhabited by a race of black Amazon women who lived without men and were ruled by Queen Califia.

Know that on the right hand from the Indies exists an island called California very close to a side of the Earthly Paradise; and it was populated by black women, without any man existing there, because they lived in the way of the Amazons. They had beautiful and robust bodies, and were brave and very strong. Their island was the strongest of the World, with its cliffs and rocky shores. Their weapons were golden and so were the harnesses of the wild beasts that they were accustomed to domesticate and ride, because there was no other metal in the island than gold.

–Las Sergas de Esplandián, (novela de caballería)
by García Ordóñez de Montalvo
Published in Seville in 1510.

Woot! Cue Roger Corman, The Emerald Forest, Blue Lagoon, Avatar, and endless jungle-women B-movie sex-plots, this Literary theme goes waaaay-back.

Between the popularity of the Novel and the lure of an exotic paradise populated by naked, sexy Amazonas, Hernán Cortés himself was hugely motivated to begin his expedition that would ultimately end in the ruin of the Aztecs. As he wrote Charles V of Spain about information he received from a captain who had achieved the conquest of Colima, "...And in the same manner I was brought a story from the men of the province of Cihuatlán, which reinforced completely that there is an island populated by women, without a single male, and at certain times men come from the mainland, who are granted access by the women..."

The image of "California" as an island-paradise persisted well into the 18th Century, despite the sailing expedition in 1539 by Francisco de Ulloa at Cortés orders, who sailed up and explored the Baja Peninsula and determining that it was a peninsula, not an island.

Later Spaniards who moved up the coast and received land-grants from the Spanish Gubb'mint were engaged in an incipient movement to free themselves from the distant, unresponsive, and burdensom Spaniards who taxed them heavily. They saw themselves as independent Californios, and not particularly as Mexicans. Indeed, in the 1830s Californios differentiated themselves from Mexicanos by asserting exclusive access to lands after the dissolution of the mission-held lands in 1834, with official papers to document their claims. Many Mexicans and Indians were able to assert their rights to mission lands, but they were not given official papers to document the claims...
The history of Californios has fueled the politically volatile issues of the La Raza (The Race) movement by activists who depict Mexican Californios as the state's original people and discount the claims to this status by the indigenous peoples, such as Coast Miwok, Ohlone, Wintun, Yokuts and other Native American ancestors who inhabited the region for thousands of years before European contact.

Wage Slavery Government

From the place where England used to be, H/T Fausta. Turning the UK into KUba.
"Foreign corporations who do business in Cuba pay the Cuban government the salary of each of their Cuban employees, and then the Cuban government pays the employee.
That is how Cubans are slaves of their government."

From CNBC The UK's tax collection agency is putting forth a proposal that all employers send employee paychecks to the government, after which the government would deduct what it deems as the appropriate tax and pay the employees by bank transfer.

Turn out the lights when you leave, guys.

I guess that would work fine for Timothy Geithner, since he and many of his ruling-class Administration (and House and Senate) colleagues don't pay taxes anyhow.

Green Fascist Nihilist

Philosopher-fisherman and ornithologist Pentti Linkola is a self-described eco-Fascist and he has plans for you here in "Humanityland" - just a hint, it's not going to be like Disneyland... From his own website: Pentti Linkola writes about the apocalyptic climactic changes that will soon effect us here in humanityland, but he doesn't take the easy way out that most authors do. Instead, he chooses to be brutally honest and suggests that we've already missed our chance to curb our damage of the world, so what we must do is to begin the elimination of human and technological excesses now.
"Any dictatorship would be better than modern democracy. There cannot be so incompetent dictator, that he would show more stupidity than a majority of the people. Best dictatorship would be one where lots of heads would roll and government would prevent any economical growth..."We will have to...learn from the history of revolutionary movements — the national socialists, the Finnish Stalinists, from the many stages of the Russian revolution, from the methods of the Red Brigades — and forget our narcissistic selves...Everything we have developed over the last 100 years should be destroyed."
This guy has a MySpace page and fans, one among them also being a big fan of Charles Manson. Represent!
(Thanks to "Slovakian Active Nihilists" we have his book "Extinguish Humans, Save the World" available in Slovakian language.)

Wut I learnt at Gublogger Z'vous

Starting with activity one: Range Day Blasting.
1.) The front sight on a Krag is thin as a cat's whisker and about sixteen feet away - it doesn't help if your eyes are old and bad, you're not going to hit the 500-yard plate anyhow.
2.) If you are next to Traction Control Rick you're going to get upstaged every time, but he'll be generous and let you shoot-up his ammo since he doesn't want to take it home on the 'plane.
2a.) Try to find out what he's bringing to shoot so you have the same caliber.

Steel Plate Blasting.
3.) My 1943 1911A1 with matching-serial numbers and proper barrel has a short trigger and I have long and uncoordinated fingers. That's why I couldn't play trumpet (or guitar) and played the stupid trombone instead.
4.) The sights of the '43 Colt are distinctly of the Krag lineage.
5.) Despite the weight of the all-steel gun I can't feel/find the re-set since it's so short, the trigger's short, and in the heat of steel-shooting I can't hold my trigger finger still enough to catch it.
6.) I need a 1911 with a longer trigger or shoot the Sig P220 instead - I was faster with the Sig last year.
6.) I need to take a pistol shootin' class and get the forward thumbs grip thing working.
6a.) Todd Jarrett needs to come to more Rendezvouses just to show me how.

Blade Maintenance

Careful, that's an 11-1/2 feet ceiling up there on the ladder, and windmills are associated with a high incidence of injury and fatality.

We are (that is, I am) doing this in preparation for the tear-out that's coming on Monday, it's Demolition Day for the kitchen renovation.
I also needed to re-attach the escutcheon that had come loose from the ceiling and descended the length of the down-rod.
The clean and fresh blades will help circulate air trapped up in the high ceiling cove during the renovation work.

Jump in the Toilet, Pull the Handle...

White House Science Czar Says He Would Use ‘Free Market’ to ‘De-Develop the United States’.
These people don't just want to slow down growth, they want to reverse it.

"A massive campaign must be launched to restore a high-quality environment in North America and to de-develop the United States," Holdren wrote along with Paul and Anne H. Ehrlich in the "recommendations" concluding their 1973 book Human Ecology: Problems and Solutions.

WTF?? We're being guided by recommendations made in 1973?? These guys have been completely wrong for so long it's absolutely crazy. They have never been right about anything.

The End of Global Warming

The Hockey-stick is dead, the decline cannot be hidden, the Late Medieval Warming Period will have it's concordant Maunder Minimum...
(PhysOrg.com) -- Sunspot formation is triggered by a magnetic field, which scientists say is steadily declining. They predict that by 2016 there may be no remaining sunspots, and the sun may stay spotless for several decades. The last time the sunspots disappeared altogether was in the 17th and 18th century, and coincided with a lengthy cool period on the planet known as the Little Ice Age.

Sunspots have been observed at least since the early 17th century, and they are known to follow an 11 year cycle from solar maximum to solar minimum. The solar minimum usually lasts around 16 months, but the current minimum has already lasted 26 months, which is the longest minimum in a hundred years.

During the period from 1645 to 1715, a time known as the Maunder Minimum, there were almost no sunspots. This period coincided with the Little Ice Age, which produced lower than average temperatures in Europe.

The cold caused incredible crop-losses, and an estimated 75 million deaths worldwide by the Black Plague, a disease spread by a flea parasite (Got DDT anyone? No? Why?) that was benign in its native hot-temperature locale of Africa, but in Europe's cold climate the gut of the flea constricted and caused it insatiable hunger, because no matter the amount of blood ingested, it couldn't swallow it.

It's a bit like the Buddhist Preta-gati, the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, a level of Hell where inhabitants have huge, empty stomachs - but they have pinhole mouths and necks so thin they cannot even swallow. So the fleas bit viciously and repeatedly, drawing blood from any host available, spreading disease from rats to humans as it traveled north throughout Europe on ships that brought food and goods from one of the few places where crops could readily grow: Africa and the Mideast.

One of the families that profited from that trade with Europe and grew strong and powerful was that of a guy named Mohammed - big-time traders in Mecca and Medina, their ships brought great wealth that financed his "religious outreach mission." Say, isn't there a huge bed-bug infestation in New York and other cities?

So all you Greentard suckers who bought carbon-offsets and a "Terrapass" to assuage your febrile conscience, the jig is up on your phony ponzi trading scheme. Is it OK for Vegans to wear goose-down? No geese were harmed in its manufacture. You're gonna need it when it gets cold. When the oceans freeze will the coastline withdraw and the Kennedy wind farm in Nantucket Sound ice-up? Green-death, that's the color of the ice-burial.

Girls ♥ Guns!

A new (to me) Gun-Chick-Blogger, Girls ♥ Guns has an excellent post on the Secret Internet Announcement we received as Gunbloggerz. There's a new entity in the Gunsphere, GunUp.
GunUp will be an online community for gun enthusiasts as well as an authoritive presence on the web for firearm reviews and pricing.

People will be able to register on GunUp and have a profile there. The profile will come with features that are opt-in. Many websites set you up with everything opted-in already and you have to navigate to an obscure page to preserve your privacy. But GunUp promises they’ll be different. One of the opt-in features is a real-time pricing system for your firearms collection. Users will have a gun locker to which they can add their firearms. GunUp will automatically calculate the pricing for each item in your gun lockers.

The site will feature forums as well as static content such as product pages. The product pages will all be searchable using GunFinder.

GunFinder allows you to explore the offerings of the firearm manufacturing world in an easy way. You can type search words into a search box and view results the old fashioned way. Or you can literally fly the firearms around on your computer screen as you toggle on and off various sorting settings on the left hand side of the GunFinder screen. The firearms will group themselves before your eyes like Nintendo Wii Miis do. Push the button and they will line up by size, barrel length, weight, even color!
(I don't know nuthin' about Wii Miis, but was a pretty nifty capability they demonstrated there.)

GBR-V MidwayUSA Mini Range-Bag Swag

The MidwayUSA mini range-bag was another swell treat! It's just the size for a pistol and some gear, with a stitched-in row of seven magazine holders, perfect for shooting steel.
On the opposite side are a couple of large tactical (?) pockets with zipper-pulls, good for cleaning gear and lube, or target pasters.
It's a conveniently small bag that would easily fit into a larger range-bag yet hold just the right amount of stuff for the game at hand.
The row of magazine pouches is covered by a protective flap with the Midway USA logo.
And it's my favorite color!

GBR-V Ruger Swag Bag

Lori brought us each a super-nice tactical attache/laptop case with some cool secret compartments with Velcro attachments and doohickies:
There's a piece of Velcro-backed stuff with stitching for a slide-holster and magazine, and Velcro retention strap. It fits in a back pocket lined with Velcro to hold it. Or I'm just imagining things.

Also included was a Ruger ball-cap, and a coffee mug with the Ruger eagle. Sweet!

Does Openly Anti-Gun eBay Founder Meg Whitman Profit from Narcotraficantes?

H/T Staghounds, but ZOUNDS!  Not just drug-dealers profit from drug crimes.  The profits of criminal organizations infiltrate society at every level, including that of taste - criminally, very poor taste...
And this eBay Ruling-Class-to-the-Bone lady wants to be California's next Governor? Why do we always get stuck voting for a *&%#-sandwich?  Where's the Tea Party when you really need it?
We've got two Independents (only  one with a website), eight Democrats, two Greens watermelons (red on the inside), one Wookie-suiter who could really wear the suit, three Communists (Peace & Freedom - the ampersand is a hammer-in-sickle), and nine Republicans - at least two of whom are ruling-class RINOS.
Sheesh...

Gunblogger Rendezvous Thank-You's

I made an address list of the GBR-V Sponsors to whom we are so grateful for the delicious and impressive swag and especially for their ongoing support of Project Valour IT.
I think I can figure out a way to mail-merge this in Word, and send an actual, personal letter of thanks. I didn't win anything big at the Raffle but Ruger impressed me by sending a very capable representative who brought along some really nice items for all of us, in particular a nicely built laptop attache-bag with a concealed compartment.

UPDATE: NO, it's been too long since I was an Admin, I can't figure out WORD at all - this goes to copy-and-paste...

Rick and the Super V

Friday at the blasting range, Rick pulled out his Awesome Card. Texans, waddya expect?

Notice the slight "shoulder-shrug" effect of the recoil. It's back-and-down instead of muzzle-flip, and if you examine how the bolt works on this thing, the recoil-response almost exactly mimics the internal effort taking place inside the Super V.

We had some fun, Bea had a lot - that's her Walther PK 380 that just ran dry.

I tried ringing the 500-yard gong with the Krag - I got close but kept missing. That's the view from my spotting scope. Kevin asked about it, it's an old IOR Valeda Meopta Hermes-1.

And awesome Ruger Lori shot and brought the incredible swag.

GBR-V

(Immigrant Gap, the High Sierra)

Drove south-east, on 237 across the bottom of the Bay through Milpitas to 680 and over the Sunol Grade. Took a left at the Hopyard towards the Altamont Pass, and over to the Central Valley and drove up, up, up, to Sacramento... Hit Auburn at 45390.4 and kept going, up and over the Summit and through the granite of the High Sierras, and finally got to Reno at 2:00pm and at mile 45485.0 - 253.3 miles and four-hours ten-something minutes - fast!

Saturday Practice Match

I went to the range for Practice, the first time since back in March. Where has the time gone? There was a new club Match policy as Leadership noticed a need for more offhand practice, and it had us switched from firing 20 slow-prone for 20-rounds offhand. Yarg! I think I got a couple tens out of a bushel of sevens. My rapids sucked and "slow" prone with only 10-shots wasn't enough to make up for anything. Wound up with a 385-1x. It shows just how perishable the skill is, or mine anyhow. I lost 50-points (and three X's) in 5 months.
Considering taking my CMP/High-Power gear and CA-legal Match AR to GBR-V. What a pile of junk to lug around, but maybe I can ring the 600-gong at the range otherwise I'm just turning money into noise, and I have to make that back up the tedious way by turning brass into bullets. Seconds of excitement vs. hours of drudgery.
Could also be interesting for Show-and-Tell. I don't have a clue how many Across-the-Course guys blog or do the GBR, the whole shooting-coat, spotting-scope, and iron-sights position thing. The offhand, rapid-seated, rapid-prone, and slow-prone game. I get the feeling everybody's some kind of razzle-dazzle five-gun barricade boomer action-shooter, or a ghillie covered wind-tasting LURP-sniper - while I'm pretty static and boring. Anybody care? :-) Better bring the Sig for shooting steel, the M1909 costs too much and I don't have enough .45 Colt ammo anyhow.

Promotionalizing For Free

I get nothing from this but your luv.  No money accords to me, but Ask and Ye Shall Receive:

Rick at Sportsman's Guide axed for and received an Ammo button, and kewl enough they have .30-40 Krag! But me being without much in the way of personal income... I kinda have to reload my own, those are the rules says She Who Must Be Obeyed - and since I got a lot of brass and a 8-lb jug of H4895 and free-time, I should. It's time consuming though, and I don't have any pistol dies and I wish I had a Dillon, too.

Another obviously handsome and genius-type fellow (and amazingly enough a reader of this blog!) at a new outfit gets a button too, for BulkAmmo.com - and in the interest of brevity I'll simply re-post his brief letter.
If you are interested, we would sure appreciate a short post to your readership (and a link to http://www.bulkammo.com/ with the anchor text "Bulk Ammo" - or feel free to link to your favorite caliber page!) about our grand opening!

Feel free to pass along the following coupon code for $25 off their first order over $200: GrandOpening

We have a lot of inventory available and its all ready to ship, so enjoy!

Great site- keep up the good work!

Steven
BulkAmmo.com

So there you have it, over on the left below my first Ammo-Promo, Lucky Gunner there is now Sportsman's Guide Ammo, and also the Amazing and Fabulous BulkAmmo.

I need to do a little Photoshop magic to get the white surround off the logos, but I have to get out of here now and run some chores and errands...
C-ya.

Just sayin'...

Why don't "Progressives" believe in the Future?

If they are so all-fired "Progressives" about things, why do they believe in Government Factory Farm Schools, run by unaccountable, unimaginative, and overpaid bureaucrats - and generally treating people like cattle to be bred into a "superior man"?
If they wish to derive the considerable benefit from their self-congratulatory self-naming as "Progressives", then why do they see the Future with such dystopian vision?
Why have they hectored, scolded, and threatened us at various times with: The Population Bomb, Global Warming, Peak Oil, The Coming Ice Age, New Math, and Race Suicide?

And why lie stupidly with words such as the, "Employee Free Choice Act" - which is no free-choice for employees at all but a demand that benefits monstrous Union Bosses more than workers, which is especially stupid at a time when the scale of such bloated behemoths are becoming more and more obviously fail-prone?
Why did the highly-educated "Progressives" defend racist and exclusionary immigration and labor legislation by characterizing so-called "unfit workers" as low-wage races, parasites, and industrial residuum?
Why such an emphasis on their creation of a New Order, and in Eugenics - as if people could be bred like dogs and cattle to improve the working stock?
Indeed their whole emphasis is on a mechanical regulatory approach, with a choking command and control mechanisms at every level and turn, to the Nth-degree.
Why do they insist on some kind of Centralized Global Government, when all politics are local and the best systems of efficient functioning governance are local, decentralized, and municipal?
Why do they cloak their rhetoric in dire threats, like a child?
Why, if they believe so much in their notion of Progress, do they have such a bleak and un-optimistic vision of the Future?
Just wondering...

HUGE 2nd Amendent WIN in California

H/T Thanks to CalGuns:
THANK YOU ALL - ALL 4 BILLS DEFEATED - IT'S A CLEAN SWEEP !!!!

AB1810 Long Gun Registration died on the INACTIVE file on the Senate floor.

AB 1934 open carry FAILED on the Assembly floor with no final vote because the Republican leadership ran out the clock to midnight and the constitutional deadline

AB 2358 (AB962 expansion) FAILED the final vote on the Senate Floor today 20 Yes. - 17 No.

SB250 dog bill failed the final Assembly floor vote 27 yes 39 no

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR EFFORTS IN DEFEATING THESE THREATS TO OUR FREEDOMS!

Paraphrased from the SactoBee:

Assembly Republican leader Martin Garrick blamed Democrats for bringing the gun-carrying prohibition bill and others to the floor with only an hour remaining and characterized the short-circuiting of debate as a travesty.

"It was a last-minute rush that shows a procrastination that took place, and it was unfortunate," Garrick said. "It was not Democracy at its finest."

Assemblywoman Lori Saldana who will (thankfully) be termed out this year, said that while implementing the Democrat's last-minute, sausage-making, jam-it-through-regardless power-play strategy, they should be prepared for a similar last-minute, GOP hail-Mary run-out-the-clock strategy.

They weren't.

At one minute before midnight Saldana asked Democratic leaders to take a roll-call vote on the controversial and disputed AB 1934. Caught unawares and unprepared, "They just stood there like deer in a headlight," she said.

Analysis by Bill Wiese at Calguns:
It wasn't the Dems procedural ineptitude that killed these bills.

We've also got friendlies on the other side of the aisle who didn't want themselves to be yet again tagged with an 'anti' label.
