The bureau said Thursday his expected release date is July 28. Ja Rule admits he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million earned between 2004 and 2006 while he lived in New Jersey........sohh.
Platinum-selling rapper Ja Rule was set to leave an upstate prison on Thursday after serving most of his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession but head straight into federal custody in a tax case. The rapper, who had been in protective custody at the Mid-State Correctional Facility because of his celebrity, has some time remaining on a 28-month sentence for tax evasion, correction officials said. His sentences were expected to run concurrently.
U.S. Marshals escorted the 36-year-old out of Mid-State Correctional Facility at 9:30 Thursday morning. It wasn't immediately clear where he'll serve time in the tax case. The rapper, who had been in protective custody because of his celebrity, has some time remaining on a 28-month sentence for tax evasion. His lawyer says Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, may have less than six months left and may be eligible for a halfway house. An order to pay $1.1 million in back taxes is one of the main reasons he wants to get back to work.
Ja Rule checked in to his current prison term in June of last year, and in just a few more months, he'll be able to wave goodbye to his cell...hopefully for good! His site has announced that the New York rapper will be released from jail in February of next year, which gives him just 3 months until freedom! The site also posted some recent pics of Ja from behind bars, and it looks like he's been hitting the gym heavy!
